3. Social context for the well-being and health of young people in Luxembourg

spotlight: Changes to social conditions for young people in Luxembourg due to Covid-19

What this is about

In the spring of 2020, the SARS-CoV-2 virus spread exponentially in Luxembourg. Drastic measures were required to control the number of people falling ill with Covid-19 and needing intensive medical care. The first lockdown beginning in mid-March 2020 affected everyone – including children, adolescents and young adults. Educational, counselling and leisure facilities closed, home schooling became the new form of teaching, and contact had to be reduced. School and university graduates had to change their plans for after their exams. Job prospects and income opportunities were reduced, dramatically so in some cases. All of this naturally had an impact on the well-being and health of young people, and must be accounted for in a youth report.
