10. Challenges for policy and practice

10.11. Young people as competent protagonists

What this is about

Young people live in a world that is changing rapidly, where they are faced with many uncertainties. Pressure and stress are doing their utmost to adversely affect their well-being. In this context, it is important that young people are aware of their capacity for action – and thus have an opportunity to actively tackle problems and develop solutions. This can only happen if young people experience this during a formative period of their life and are able to help shape their own environment. Young people should increasingly be recognised as protagonists within their various institutional environments, and incorporated into the process of shaping them.
